Dear Advertisers & Sponsors For over 20 years, we, the founders of www.Catharsisonline.net have been dedicated to the goal and mission of providing quality mental health services to individuals, families and groups in pain. We have assessed, advised, counseled and observed individuals who were struggling with their sexuality and chaffing at the idea of having to enter an office and speak with someone about their sexual confusion or identity that did not concur with the accepted “norm.” Their fear of being seen or recognized by someone they knew entering the “counseling place” presented a significant deterrent to their committing to therapy. In the United States, every hour an LGBT youth commits suicide. The statistics for transgender youth are even more harrowing -- the attempted suicide rate is higher than 50%! If these sexual and gender issues are not honestly and compassionately addressed, they most often create turmoil in the individuals’ lives. Levels of denial, in many cases, run so deep that they often experience significant depression, anxiety, job performance issues, drug and alcohol addictions, relationship problems, and persistent suicidal thoughts. Over the last few years, as a growing number of individuals have come forward with stories of having clandestine, same sex encounters while engaging in heterosexual relationships, some long term, Catharsisonline.net was conceived to provide help and hope. September 1, 2007, this service was officially launched. We sought to provide a service which would remove the identified barrier of one-on one in person therapy, and offer a totally confidential on-line format. One where an individual can sit and talk from the comfort of their home or office and genuinely express their heartfelt emotions without the fear of being seen by anyone they know. Importantly this service is also for loved ones and family members who sense that their family member is struggling with their sexuality and they are not sure how to approach the subject or how to help them. Catharsisonline.net has a huge emphasis on support and counseling to family members, partners, spouses, and loved ones of those on the down low and closeted. When a loved one senses that an issue of sexual confusion or ambiguity exists, we are here to provide information and to help them sort through their feelings and concerns. In other instances, the person on the down low or closeted has been so proficient in hiding their secret sex life that the significant other and loved ones are taken completely by surprise. Catharsis' staff of licensed mental health professionals are here to help them address their feelings of devastation, shock and betrayal. We applaud you for the positive achievements that you have made in the "Down Low,"LGBT, HIV, Various Minority and Corporate communities and the outstanding contributions to the organizations and the communities they serve. Your investment reaps multiple returns. By supporting our mission many more people are exposed to the alarming number of individuals who are living double lives and struggling with their gender and sexuality. You are helping to educate people regarding the number of suicides occurring hourly related to the pain, isolation, and hopelessness of feeling sexually unacceptable ("down low" adults and LGBT youth). You are assisting loved ones and families in educating themselves on the subject of down low; and you are assisting families to heal after the devastation of a "down low" loved one coming out of the closet. We sincerely appreciate your support, thanking you in advance. Ojetta Brown, LCSW, LMSW (800) 939-0678 ext. 0
